Detox Routines

OK, this article is going to cover a few good Detox routines.

Here is a site I like on Colon cleansing, where any good detox regime should start. The basics of a colon cleanse are taking a spoonful of bentonite clay and a spoonful of ground flaxseeds in the morning and evening, eating a high fiber or raw diet, and perhaps the addition of the herb cascara sagrada to encourage bowel movements. Finally, make sure to add probiotics to your diet daily before, during and after a colon cleanse. These probiotics can be anything from Kombucha, to saurkraut to kimchee to yogurt. It is also nice to pair a colon flush with colonics or enemas, coffee, herbal tea, salt water or yogurt enemas especially. There are recipes for these on this page.

A good Gallbladder/Liver Cleanse can be found at this site. I have had a couple of friends who have tried this and had excellent results, passed gallstones and felt great afterwards. I did a modified version of it and though I did not use a collandar to check for stones, I did feel a boost of energy after the cleanse.

Kidney Cleanse
To avoid kidney stones, liquids, herbal teas, and melons are the day to day helpers. The kidney cleanse I found here is basically a three day fast, surrounded on either side with a day of juice and raw salad fasting. It also recommends a recipe that was the same as the master cleanse recipe--a drink that included cayenne, distilled water, lemon juice, and maple syrup, to be drank every morning during the five day cleanse. They also have a soup that they call Potassium Soup, that includes potato peels, carrot peels, beets, onions, garlic, celery, dark greens, and hot pepper to taste. Parsley tea, cornsilk tea, watermelon seed tea, and celery seed tea are also all recommended on this site. I also really enjoyed reading about their remedy for kidney stones--to sit in the tub and eat 20-100kg of watermelon over the course of a day. Finally, here is Dr. Hulda's site on Kidney cleanse, with herbals. This is intended for people with kidney stones or lower back pain.

A Parasite Cleanse
Clarkia seems to have the most often reccommended cleanse product for parasites: a black walnut hull, clove, and wormwood tincture that can be both injested and added to an enema. This is supposedly capable of killing both the eggs and the parasites. I've also been told that parsley water makes a good parasite cleanse, as does avacado skin tea, a tea made from sliced up avacado hulls. According to curezone.com, Pumpkin seeds, Gentian Root, Black Seeds, Hyssop, Cramp Bark, Peppermint seeds, Thyme, Fennel Seed, and Grapefruit seeds, are all also reported to have parasite cleansing effects on the body.

Here's another good site on Gallbladder and Kidney cleanse, that includes information about Castor oil packs.

or, according to Ananda Clinic & Spa, you can Panchakarma, or detox, by figuring out your dosha and eating in one of the following ways:

Vata Pacifying Diet
Most important principles
Favor warm, cooked foods and hot beverages. Soft and unctuous foods, such as pasta, cooked cereals and soups should be favored over dry and crunchy foods. Raw vegetables should be avoided except in small amounts. Avoid cold drinks and frozen desserts (such as ice cream, Popsicles, frozen yogurt, etc.)

Pitta Pacifying Diet
Most important principles
Favor juicy, cooling foods with high water content. Avoid hot spices (chillies, cayenne, jalapeno peppers, etc.), alcohol, vinegar, fried foods, tomatoes, yogurt and cheese. Also, food should be fresh and organic if possible. Avoid leftovers, packaged, canned or bottled foods, processed foods, preservatives, artificial ingredients and salty foods. An asterisk * after the item means it is especially helpful to favor or to avoid that particular food.

Kapha Pacifying Diet
Most important principles
Favor warm foods and hot beverages. Eat a minimum of oil and fat. Avoid cold drinks, cold food, and frozen desserts (such as ice cream, popsicles, frozen yogurt, etc.) Avoid leftovers, canned, bottled, or packaged foods, frozen foods, processed foods, rich, creamy foods, sweets, salty foods and alcohol. Eat mainly freshly prepared vegetable and legume dishes, with proportionately smaller amounts of grains and fruits. The food should be spiced according to taste. An asterisk* after the item means it is especially helpful to favor or to avoid that particular food.

Vata Pacifying Diet without Heavy Foods
Use this diet if you have symptoms of both Vata and Kapha imbalance or you have symptoms of Vata imbalance with an overweight or ama condition.

Most important overall principles (no matter what your dosha)
Favor warm, cooked foods and warm beverages. Soft and moist foods, such as pasta, cooked cereals and soups should be favored over dry and crunchy foods. Raw vegetables should be avoided. Avoid cold drinks, iced drinks, frozen desserts (such as ice cream, popsicles, frozen yogurt, etc.,) caffeinated beverages and other stimulants, and carbonated beverages. All foods should be freshly prepared of fresh and ideally organic ingredients. Avoid leftovers, packaged, canned or bottled foods, processed foods, frozen foods, refined sweets and bakery products.

or, just poi, taro, greens, ulu, sweet potato, and a little fish, with sea salt.
Just eating good sea salt, by itself, is a cleansing practice for hawaiian healers. As is sprinkling salt water over the person using a Ti leaf, as is chanting, or brushing the person with your own hands. Ho'o'pono'pono practitioners take family and inner problems of the person they are working on and cleanse again and again, using chanting and phrases like i'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you.
